Emergency medical services/ambulance 18.1 Emergency medical services At all matches, the organising club must ensure emergency medical services are available for the players and referees on site at the facility. 18.2 Ambulance At all SHL competition matches, a dedicated ambulance primarily intended for the players and referees must be present at the arena. The ambulance must be on site at the latest during the regulated warm-up and may leave no earlier than when the match has finished and all participants have left the ice. An ambulance is recommended for matches not covered by the above absolute requirement. In cases where an ambulance cannot be made available, an exemption can be sought from the Swedish Ice Hockey Association to replace the ambulance with a medical room. Application must be made for such an exemption at least one month before the relevant match so that an inspection of the medical room can be carried out by a person appointed by the Swedish Ice Hockey Association. A checklist with minimum requirements for the condition of the medical room can be requested from sakerhet@swehockey.se. 18.2.1 Legal requirements In order to provide medical services with licensed personnel, such as nurses or doctors, and where medication is involved, the company must comply with certain legal requirements and regulations to operate such activities. Such arrangements are referred to as health and medical services, and the company that provides them is a healthcare provider. Swedish Ice Hockey ensures that healthcare providers delivering emergency medical services at matches maintain the correct standards and comply with current legal requirements. To facilitate the tendering/ procurement of medical services (including ambulance or public medical services) for clubs, a governing document has been established to support ensuring the right quality of service. The organising club is responsible for ensuring that healthcare providers delivering emergency medical services for the match meet the required standards and comply with current legal requirements. The governing document can be requested from the Swedish Ice Hockey Association at sakerhet@swehockey.se. 18.2.2 Procedures • T he healthcare provider must notify the nearest SOS (emergency) centre to the facility that an ambulance is on site, as well as provide contact information for the staff before all matches. • T he organising club must ensure that ambulance personnel/public healthcare providers have radio equipment to be able to communicate directly with the control room or safety officer in the event of an incident. In addition, the phone number of the ambulance personnel must be communicated to the control room/safety officer. • A mbulance personnel must notify the control room/safety officer upon arrival at the facility, in the event that they leave the designated location, and when they leave the facility. • L ocal procedures must be in place to determine who should call an ambulance via SOS (emergency services) when needed and how it must be guided to the patient. • T he ambulance must always be staffed by at least one registered nurse plus either an ambulance paramedic or an undergraduate registered nurse. • T he ambulance personnel must have emergency driver training, training in advanced CPR for adults and children, and certification training for the relevant region in which they operate.
